Exercise is essential for maintaining good physical and mental health, and regular physical activity has been shown to have numerous benefits for disease prevention. Usually, when we think of preventing disease, the first thing that comes to mind is hygiene and medicines. Although having proper hygiene is crucial to prevent any diseases, it is not the only means of preventing them.   Physical activity and exercise are extremely important in keeping the body fit and battling diseases. Your body can become prone to sicknesses and otherwise avoidable medical disorders if you do not get enough exercise and physical mobility. In this blog, we will explore the connection between exercise and disease prevention, and how regular physical activity can help prevent a range of health conditions.

By getting proper daily exercise, you can promote the release of such ‘feel-good’ chemicals, allowing you to be more motivated and have a more positive outlook. At the same time, regular exercise can improve self-esteem, provide a sense of accomplishment, and improve overall mental health, helping you increase your productivity throughout the day.[4] 

Obesity 

Obesity is a growing health concern around the world, but regular exercise can help prevent and manage the condition. Fast food is incredibly convenient and readily available, making it relatively easy to gain weight quickly. Exercise helps to burn calories and can improve metabolism, reducing the risk of obesity. Those who are obese and want to lose weight and improve overall health can do so by incorporating physical activity and exercise into their daily lives. 

Cognitive Function 

Studies have shown that regular exercise can improve cognitive function and reduce the risk of cognitive decline. Exercise improves blood flow to the brain, which can help improve memory, attention, and decision-making skills. Adequate exercise has also been demonstrated to lower the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

The World Health Organization recommends that adults engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise per week.
